Single Officer Response to an Active Shooter Training

The Single Officer Response to an Active Shooter (SOR) course is a comprehensive two-day training program specifically designed to equip law enforcement officers with the knowledge, skills, and confidence required to effectively respond to active shooter incidents, whether operating alone or as the first on scene.

This program has been carefully developed to provide officers with multiple tactical options to interdict, interrupt, and neutralize an active threat with the ultimate goal of saving lives. By the conclusion of the course, participants will have gained proficiency in:

  • Applying the PIE decision-making matrix to quickly and effectively assess evolving situations.
  • Reading and manipulating the environment to create tactical advantages.
  • Gathering and processing critical information under pressure.
  • Employing evidence-based, life-saving tactics designed for single-officer intervention.

The course emphasizes both mindset and tactical execution, preparing officers to rapidly move toward the source of violence, engage the threat through thresholds, and take decisive action, even without immediate backup.

Training includes a blended approach of:

  • Classroom instruction, covering foundational principles, decision-making models, and tactical considerations.
  • Live-fire range drills, including advanced exercises such as shooting through thresholds, glass, and engaging in dynamic environments.
  • Force-on-force scenarios, where participants apply learned tactics in realistic, high stress situations.

Every principle and tactic presented in the course is reinforced and validated through force-on-force training, ensuring officers leave with both theoretical understanding and practical application. Upon successful completion, officers will be better prepared, both mentally and tactically, to act as the critical first responder who disrupts or neutralizes an active shooter, safeguarding innocent lives.
